HM of GB Tudor range

The only painted metal I managed to pick up at the London Show last month were these two examples of artillerymen from the short lived HM of BG Tudor World range, the chipped paint might need a bit of a touch up!

The gun is borrowed from somewhere else (Sikh artillery) but looks okay with these Tudor chaps, they will join the Monarch, Barzo and Chintoys Conquistadors to beef up the Wars of Religion project which is very slowly taking shape here.  Rather neat little figures I think and an unusual subject.

This is the full set of Tudor figures from the HM of GB catalogue, the mounted figure of Henry VIII is really quite fine and I wouldn't mind getting a few more of these.  The firm mostly made British Colonial figures back around 1990 and quite nice they were too, particularly a mule gun battery, they exhibited for several years at the Olympia Toy Trade Fair in London but despite this they never really took off with collectors.

  1. Nice artillery crew Brian, they look good with the gun that you're using! If you're like me, I would have to find a Master Gunner to complete the set!

    1. There was a nice Master Gunner with the original set that I'd like to get but these don't turn up very often so I might have to convert one, at least I've got an idea now of what he should look like.

  2. Lovely figures Brian; I still have a copy of the catalogue you sent me some time ago. I am currently listening to an inspiring series of Youtube videos by David Starkey on the Tudors, in particular on Henry VIII, which just make me want to game the period in 54mm all the more!

    1. Hopefully one day we'll have enough toy soldiers to do just that.

  3. Very nice figures - they'd go well with the ACTA ECW gun.

    1. Yes they would, I'd been planning to convert the ACTA ECW crew until I got these.

  4. I'm just glad they aren't 40mm.

This way, I can just admire them and be slightly envious rather than trying to decide if my wife would mind me spending the grocery money on toy soldiers!

    1. An unusual subject for modern metal toy soldiers, it's a shame they didn't attract greater interest from collectors.

I've just stumbled across this blog whilst looking for something else and just had to comment on the Tudor figures. I have the original HM of Great Britain mould for this set, in fact, I bought the whole range. I'm reviving tje

    1. Hi Gill, yes I'd heard (on facebook I think) that you were bringing back the HM of GB range, I got to know the previous owners back when they used to take a stand at the International Toy Fair at Olympia, looking forward to getting some of these Tudors, I don't think anyone else makes anything like them. Do you have a website for them?

Hi Brian, I don't have a website yet. I do have a Facebook page though with photos of what I have in production so far. It's just myself and my partner working out of the spare room, so it's a slow process with casting and painting etc. My Facebook page is - Shire Miniatures. Please feel free to join, you'll see the Tudor set in my albums although the giant archer is with Nartin Tabony at the moment as he's re-sculpting a hand for him.
