Three of my all time favourite figures!

Three of my all time favourite figures, two versions of Kiplings "Gentleman in Kharki" and "The Handy Man". The outer figures are hollow Ivorine plastic, made in 1900, in the centre is the hollowcast lead version made by Fry around 1920, the rifle barrel has been repaired and looks a bit long but it works well enough, I'm struggling over the decision to repaint him or not.

  1. Excellent figures Brian! Each one is a true work of art and tells a story all on its own!!

    1. Hi Brad, yes they certainly evoke the spirit of their times.

  2. I can see why you like them Brian. Lots of character bordering on defiance in these. They'd look so good painted, but at circa 1900 you just wouldn't would you?!

    1. No, I don't think I could, but a friend on facebook tells me the Fry figure has been reproduced by Replica metal soldiers so I might get on of them. It would be great to get a recast of the sailor but I think it would take a lot of metal!

  3. Brian, I was expecting something less elegant because of their early production. Wouldn't be surprised if Bakelite collectors would like those outer figures!

    1. Hi Michael, there is a small but steady following for these early figures, the sculpting is always beautifully executed.
