A final post on finds from the London show, a couple of modern white metal collectors figures rescued from a junk box:
On the left a Landsknecht by Rose Models, a matchlock in one hand and length of match in the other hand. A great figure but not a very useful pose, I've been looking out for one of these a while, the plan being to make a silicon mould of the head and copy it for use in conversions. We'll see.
On the right is a Jacobite Highland officer which looks a lot like an illustration from the Osprey book, so it could be made by New Hope Design but I need to check. Both are nice crisp castings, I plan to mount them on MDF bases and add them to existing projects.
The modern phenomenon that is predictive text never ceases circumvent and undermine me, on typing matchlock I find I have been translated as MacBook and my attempt at correction insists I mean MacBollock. Heaven preserve us!
Lovely figures, the Jacobite officer is a particularly nice casting. Predictive test is handy but does throw up some "interesting" ideas!!
ReplyDeleteSome of these figures look so fine as castings there's a temptation to keep them unpainted, the predictive thing is certainly testing my patience!
DeleteI painted Rose miniatures prior to wargaming in my youth. They were lovely figures and the range was wide and interesting, even including Minioan bull leapers, which l aspired to but never bought.

They were lovely figures, arguably some of the best ever made, I never had any but poured over the catalogue endlessly, still enjoy looking through it today.
DeleteI like the Landsknecht head Brian. I have a lot of CTA figures that would suit! I get the impression the London show wasn't the best for finds? I have looked for reviews but failed to find any.
ReplyDeleteThe London show was pretty dire really, I got a few bits - flats, composition & lead but there was virtually no plastic. Half the tables were taken by model displays and people were spreading out to fill up empty space. It was very quiet through the door, I spent more time talking to dealers than looking around, they had nothing else to do. The summer show has always been the quiet one, I think they would have done better to keep the March and December dates and ditch this one.
DeleteWonderful castings Brian, very crisp and clean! I'm sure that you will put them to great use!
ReplyDeleteIt never ceases to amaze me how much character and detailing good sculptors can put into these miniatures.
